Summary

Accumulating five, ten, fifteen or twenty yellow cards in league matches can result in an automatic ban in your relevant league. Accumulated yellow cards in cup competitions are treated separately and can result in an automatic ban from the cup competition in which the yellow cards were received.

The cut-off dates for receiving a sanction as a result of accumulating cautions are outlined in the table below.

  • For example; cautions received after the Quarter Finals in most cup competitions would not count as an accumulated caution. Therefore, Players cautioned in either the first leg or second leg of a Semi-Final would not be at risk of being suspended unless they receive either two cautions within the same match or a straight dismissal.
  • Where a Player moves between Clubs participating in different Leagues falling within Category 1 during a playing season, any cautions accumulated by the Player in the League in which their former Club participates shall be deemed as cautions accumulated by the Player in the League in which their new Club participates.
  • FA Cup: Caution counts are reset at the end of the Qualifying Competition. The caution count threshold has been reduced from 4 to 2 for the Competition Proper (regardless of the round in which the Player’s Club enters).

Category 4: Clubs in the Premier League, EFL Leagues, the National League, WSL and WSL2 playing Friendly Matches.

  • Accumulated cautions do not apply to this category.
